Equine Welfare Project's Intervention Ensured Survival Of Donkeys In Drought

Since 2012, the SSM's EWP has been working for the welfare of equines in Nanded district.
This summer, the whole area of the district is severely affected by drought, causing severe shortage of fodder and pasture for animals. The families dwelling on those domestic animals were also at threat. But the timely and thoughtful intervention of EWP averted the situation.
The project personnel had pursued the Animal Husbandry department functionaries at taluka level and ensured that the equine family is also brought under the schemes that facilitate fodder and grazing pasture for animals during drought conditions.
As a result, the EWP with the support of farmers, developed fields for grazing in 8 villages. Thus the lives of donkeys and dozens of families’ dependant on them are saved from the drought.
